Chennai: The Raymond 420 National Championship in Chennai saw a fleet of 18 boats race today. The races were held in the open sea, north of the shipping channel with winds blowing from the South East at 10 to 12 knots and a swell exceeding 1 m.

The fleet comprised sailors from Hyderabad, Bhopal, Mumbai and Chennai. The days racing saw K.Yaquob and Rajiv Kumar of AWSA finish first in both races.

In the first race Zephra Currimbhoy and Meghna of RMYC finished second while Upamanyu Dutta and Hussain of RBYC finished third

In the second race Imo Lemnok and Pankaj Kumar of INWTC finished second while Upamanyu and Hussain of RBYC finished third.

A total of 12 races are planned for the event. Three races are scheduled for tomorrow and the day after.

420 class included in next Asian Championship and Asian Games

Here’s a good news for all the young sailors! The 420 class is included in the next Asian Sailing Championship and the 2014 Asian Games in China.

Bhopal: The First 420 Inland National Championship was held at Bhopal Lake from 18 – 22 Aug 2010. The event was conducted by the 420 Class Association of India under the aegis of National Sailing School, Bhopal and supported by the Sports Authority of Madhya Pradesh. The event attracted a total of 21 teams from all over the country. Read more
